Saraden Illustrations is owned by Award Winning Irish Designer Sarah O’ Rourke and is under Sarah’s company Umbrella Saraden Designs.

Sarah studied Visual Arts Practice sculpture in IADT Dun Laoghaire and here she began to experiment with textiles, Sewn Illustrations and portraits. This was not met with much enthusiasm from her tutors, however Sarah persevered and Saraden was created.

Sarah found her way back to her Illustrations after college when her friend Toni had a baby boy called Zach. She created a beautiful portrait of him. This gave Sarah the idea to begin producing Sewn Illustrations & Custom Portraits.

Sarah initially ran Saraden Designs alongside Saraden Illustrations but as the two have grown she knew it was time to separate them.

A Saraden Illustration begins with the fabric which is handmade in-house by Sarah. It can be created in a variety of colours. The designs are sewn into the fabric through various hand and machine sewing methods. These are then framed in various sized frames or created into greeting cards.

These ready made pieces are available in the online shop. Sarah also creates custom designs and portraits. These make beautiful gifts for weddings, christenings, birthdays etc. Whether is is adding a name, personalising groomsmen/bridesmaids messages. a pet portrait, a loved ones portrait, a new borns portrait, the list is endless. Take a look at some examples of these on our Custom Design page.
